So you got a new car, now you wanna put a
good audio system in it. Alpine ![]() A lot of sound quality depends on acoustic inside your car and how big is an interior. For example acoustic in Ford Escort will be much worse than in bigger car like Ford Scorpio, the same for VW Golf and VW Passat and so on. It's better if your car has space in doors for woofers, and in dash for midrange (tweeters can be mounted anywhere), then you can go for 3-way crossover system in the front, which is the best. Clarion
You have to decide how much money you want to spend on your audio system, if you want a best sound buying just a new CD player you have to consider Blaupunkt. Blaupunkt is the best sound among the cheapest systems. Blaupunkt
First and the most important thing in your system is head unit or a CD player. You can choose from the variety of names and brands like: Alpine, Clarion, Blaupunkt, Pioneer, Philips, Sony and so on. Among the best I would put Alpine, Clarion and Blaupunkt. This is by sound quality inside the car. The quality of sound processing of these brands is clear and sound frequencies amplitude is widest and fullest. All this characteristics will go down with the price from the top model to a cheap stereo. However Blaupunkt stays good enough even cheap. Pioneer and Philips are good but not good enough to be among the best in sound quality. Pioneer
About Sony - it is for people who like play it more for people outside the car or like it loud. But when you want quality than it can not supply with fullest range of sounds. Sony sounds better very loud, but sucks for quiet quality music. I would say that Sony still have to work on sound processor inside it's head units. Sony
Personally I after changing Sony and Blaupunkt now have a top model Clarion head unit and happy with it. When you got a head unit you need to get other components: -amplifier, -quality wires, -quality speakers with crossovers, -DSP or external digital sound processor (which will enable equalizer and improve very much sound quality), -CD changer. Sometimes it's better to build up all system from one brand to insure better compatibility between components, but I see nothing wrong in building the system from best components among all brands. Like if you like a dynamic sound you will not find anything better than JBL speakers. Blaupunkt and Clarion speakers can produce a very clear and powerfull sound, not like Sony, Pioneer and most of the others. When it comes to amplifiers - bigger is better. I would recommend 4x100Watts, and don't buy cheap amplifier, you have to insure that that brilliant sound produced by your head unit and DSP will not get distorted and wasted by your amplifier. In my car I have 10 speakers: 2 3-way speakers in the front with 2 3-way crossovers (Pioneer tweeters, JBL midrange, and Infinity woofers), and 2 2-way speakers in the back with 2 2-way crossovers, 2 Blaupunkt woofers, and tweeters. And I prefer two good and powerfull back woofers to one big sub woofer in the back, cause it alows a stereo effect for woofers. Also you will need to put high end wires to all your speakers in the car to insure the final sound and bass quality.
